When parishioners are invested and involved it creates a vibrant and thriving community. Below are the many apostolates that will allow you to become engaged in the life and mission of the parish. Some apostolates have been designated for youth participation. In addition, those that require pastor recommendation and approval or require VIRTUS training are noted below.
HospitalityThis event is held near Fat Tuesday at the beginning of Lent each year and is hosted by the Altar Society. Volunteers are responsible for planning, organizing and assisting with set up and clean up, food preparation and serving as hostesses for the night. This event is held in November of each year and is hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Volunteers are responsible for assisting with setup and clean up, preparation and serving. Virtus training required. Volunteers are responsible for providing childcare for children during designated parish events and MUST be 16 years of age or older. Virtus Training required. Groups of four to six married couples meet monthly for faith-sharing, prayer time, and dinner. This event is held annually during Lent. It is hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Volunteers are responsible for assisting with set up and clean up, food preparation and serving. Virtus training required. Volunteers provide salads, side dishes, and desserts for funeral dinners. They also assist with set up and clean and in assist with preparation and serving. Virtus training required. This event is held in the fall and is a fundraiser for the school. Volunteers assist with duties as needed. Mass Greeters open doors, welcome parishioners, and guide visitors as needed. Both adults and families are encouraged to participate in this ministry. Virtus training required. Harvest House is an organization for parishioners 55 years of age and older. The mission is to provide a social organization for seniors to encourage them to remain active, make new friends, and enjoy fun filled activities including social, religious, and community related experiences. Volunteers will connect with and welcome new families in our parish and provide information to them about the parish. Virtus training required. Volunteers help plan and facilitate the Parish Picnic held in the fall. Assistance is needed with planning, food preparation, set up, activities and clean up. Virtus training required. Volunteers assist with planning, organizing, collecting donations, set up & clean up and duties of the event. Virtus training is required. Volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up at various special events hosted by the parish. Virtus training required. Couple/Family host either the male or female team members of Totus Tuus for the week of the parish by providing lodging and breakfast for them that week. Virtus training is required. This event is held in conjunction with the Chicken Fry the first Saturday in November of each year and is a fund raiser for the Altar Society. Volunteers assist with the bingo game (tickets, cards, callers and distribution of the turkeys). Virtus training required. Ushers help locate seats for Mass attendees, maintain decorum and dignity during the celebration of the mass. They also take up collection, assist with communion, hand out bulletins and check pews and common areas after Mass. Virtus training required. |
PrayerAdorers pray before the Blessed Sacrament from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm on Wednesdays. At least two adorers are needed for each hour. Altar Servers assist the priest during the celebration of the Mass. And other liturgical functions. Children must have completed 4 th grade or older and participated in the training offered each spring and summer. Designated for youth participation. Vocalists provide musical leadership to the congregation during the weekend Masses and should be musically inclined. Choir members help lead singing at the Mass to enhance the full and active liturgical participation. Volunteers are responsible for appropriate liturgical decorations, displays, and altar flowers that reflect our Catholic faith. An Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is a layperson authorized to distribute the Eucharist. They assist “ordinary ministers” (bishops, priests, and deacons) when clergy are unavailable or when large congregations are present. This ministry is pastor appointed and special training and certification is required. These EMHC assist the pastor in bringing the Eucharist to homebound members of our community. Special training is required and this ministry is pastor appointed. Fasting Brothers are men who commit to fasting one day a week exclusively for the intention of their pastor. Each man chooses what type of fast he will offer, e.g. no food all day, only bread and water, not eating until 3pm, —whatever he discerns from the Holy Spirit. It should be sacrificial. On the specific day of the week to which he has committed, a Fasting Brother offers his fast solely for the intentions of the parish pastor. Musicians enhance the full and active liturgical participation of the mass by providing instrumental accompaniment. Instruments such as the piano, flute, strings and organ are most welcome. Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the celebration of the Mass. They must convey a high regard of the Liturgy of the Word and be comfortable speaking in public. Training is required. This ministry is by pastor recommendation. Participants must be at least 16 years or older. Committee members assist with the planning of the different liturgical seasons and special Mass celebrations. These members are pastor recommended. Gift Bearers represent the congregation by bringing forward the gifts of bread and wine for the offertory at Mass. Gift Bearers must be comfortable with processing down the main isle of the church and commit to serving when assigned. Volunteers pray for those who are ill, grieving or suffering and are notified of special prayer requests via Flocknote. Parishioners gather in a host family’s home on Friday mornings at 9:15 am to recite the rosary, pray for special intentions, and conduct spiritual activities. Volunteers lead the rosary 30 minutes prior to the start of weekend Masses. Volunteers are responsible for leading the rosary at the nursing home in Haysville on Wednesday mornings. The Seven Sisters Apostolate us a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a Holy Hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of the parish priest. Each member commits to a Holy Hour on a specific day of the week, thus covering a complete week. The Holy Hour is ideally prayed in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament either in an Adoration Chapel or in front of a Tabernacle. Parishioners are encouraged to invite our shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes into their home for a week at a time. |
FormationCYM seeks to enhance the spiritual, social, and emotional development of students in grades 9-12th . The group meets monthly and is open to all high school students. Youth designated. Adult volunteers are needed to provide leadership and faith formation to students in CYM. Virtus training is required. Volunteers serve as catechists and sponsors for those seeking information about the Catholic faith and especially for those seeking to come into full communion with the Catholic Church. Volunteers serve as catechists and classroom aides for children Kindergarten through 8th grade who do not attend Catholic school. Virtus training is required. Inspired Venerable Father Emil Kapun. The group seeks to provide fellowship and formation for men. Volunteers assist in planning and facilitating retreats through out the year. Virtus training is required. Volunteers are needed to help with this week-long catechetical program for students entering 1 st -12 th grade. Volunteers assist with registration, organizing, and facilitating the week. Virtus training is required and volunteers must be in high school. A bible study that aims to bring women to a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ by offering personal study and small group discussion. It is open to all women of the parish. |
ServiceThe Altar Society provides for the needs of the altar and to enhance the celebration of the mass. This organization also assists with social functions and other activities in the parish. All ladies 18 years and older in the parish are members of the Altar Society. This group meets on the first Thursday of the month September through May. Members who participate in events where children are present must be Virtus trained. Volunteers are called upon to help support the bereaved in our parish. They also assist with planning and hosting of the annual prayer service for the deceased members of our parish in November. Team members clean the church weekly and assist the Altar Society with deep cleaning during Advent and Lent. Volunteers represent St Cecilia’s in community activities, primarily assisting with the Angel Tree at Christmas. Volunteers assist with planting and maintaining various flower beds and the grotto area outside the church. Volunteers assist with mowing, weed eating and edging the parish grounds on a weekly basis or as needed. Knights are dedicated to the ideals of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. They participate in charitable activities and parish and school events. Any Catholic male 18 years or older is encourage and welcome to join. St. Cecilia’s Knights Council is #6761. Members who participate in events where children are present must be Virtus trained. Volunteers from St. Cecilia Parish assist with serving food and clean up at the Lord’s Diner on the 4 th Sunday of each month from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. A food handler’s permit and Virtus training are required. Parishioners assist with the weekly counting of the Mass collections. This ministry is pastor recommended. Volunteers provide support to new mothers in the parish by providing meals and fellowship. Volunteers assist in the parish office providing desk phone coverage and clerical duties. Virtus training is required. Volunteers work for the respect of all human life from conception to natural death through prayer, education, awareness of legislative issues, and outreach to organizations. Committee members assist with the annual stewardship renewal. Volunteers assist in the lunchroom and classrooms as needed and provide desk coverage and recess support. Virtus training is required. |
