This volunteer can assist in and out of the classroom. Help is needed Monday through Friday during school hours. There are a variety of ways to be an assistant: listening to students recite prayers, helping with flashcards, assist with technology, lead art lessons, and making games. Arrangements can be made to complete projects at home, too. Contact the school office to get in touch with a teacher.
Periodic “Faith Events” held throughout the year – open to all ages in the parish (toddler through retirees), providing an opportunity to come together with a meal followed by learning sessions for the entire group as well as age appropriate breakout sessions. Confirmation classes are offered to High School students in their initiation process of the Catholic Church. The students of our parish prepare as a group to receive this Sacrament. They are required to attend classes on a regular basis, generally from September through the spring. In preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, they must also choose a sponsor, participate in various spiritual and community projects, attend a retreat, meet individually with the Pastor, write a letter of petition to the Bishop, and be committed to continuing the faithful practice and study of the Catholic religion. The Bishop administers the Sacrament during a special Mass in the spring. The Confirmation classes are held every 2-3 years at our parish. The time commitment for the adult leaders will be the same as the students, with additional session planning time.
The Parish School of Religion (PSR) program assists parents in the religious formation of their children by providing classes for students in grades K-12 who are not currently enrolled in Catholic schools. Volunteers have committed time and talent to the program as catechists, classroom helpers, and office helpers for the entire school year. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – 9:50 a.m. Classes are held in the parish school as well as the Church basement classrooms. There are formation classes for those interested as a catechist (teachers). Everyone who participates with children in our diocese needs to attend a Virtus training session. There are periodic staff meetings and training sessions for teachers and helpers. The coordinator oversees all aspects of the program, enrollment, and coordinates schedules and substitutions.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process established by the Catholic Church after Vatican II to provide information about the Catholic faith for non-Catholics. The team member’s time and talent commitment is a yearlong process, the same as those in formation.
Preparation classes for the Sacraments are provided to children at St. Cecilia Parish. Baptism classes are held monthly. Baptisms of adults are handled through the RCIA program.
The School Advisory Council serves in an advisory capacity to the pastor and principal in fulfilling the mission of St. Cecilia School for grades Pre K-8. There are six members of this team; in addition to the Pastor and principal. The team meets monthly.
